Number of the Day

Start math with a fresh Number of the Day. Pick a level from kindergarten to grade 5, then show the number with ten-frames, base-ten blocks or a place-value chart, a number line, and routine questions to reveal one by one. Project it, or print a student sheet with an answer key. Free, no sign-up.

Number of the Day is a five-minute math routine: the class looks at one number and describes it in many ways — one more and one less, tens and ones, expanded form, word form, rounding, even or odd. Classeem gives every level the same new number for the whole day, shows it with pictures and a number line, and lets you reveal each answer when the class is ready. It runs in your browser with no account.

In plain words

What is Number of the Day?

Number of the Day is a short, daily math routine in which students explore one number in several ways: building it with pictures or blocks, placing it on a number line, finding numbers that are more or less, and writing it in expanded form and in words. Teachers often use it as morning work or a warm-up at the start of a math lesson.

Because the questions stay the same while the number changes, students practise place value, mental math and math vocabulary every day without a new set of instructions.

For 406 (grade 2)

  • 4 hundreds, 0 tens, 6 ones
  • 400 + 6
  • four hundred six
  • 100 more: 506
  • Even
Step by step

When it helps

When this is useful

Morning work

Put today's sheet on desks so students start math independently while you take attendance.

Math warm-up on the board

Project the number and reveal one answer at a time as the class explains its thinking.

Number talks

Ask how students found ten more or the rounded number, and compare strategies before revealing the answer.

Day of the school year

Type the day count (day 42, day 100) to celebrate milestones with place value.

Small-group or tutoring check

Use a level below or above the class to see quickly who is secure with place value.

Tips for better results

  • Wait before you reveal

Ask students to show answers on whiteboards or fingers first, then click the card so the reveal confirms their thinking.

  • Keep the same level all week

A new number each day with the same questions builds speed; move up a level when most of the class is fluent.

  • Ask "how do you know?"

The answer is the end of the conversation, not the start: have two students explain different strategies first.

  • Use a presentation clicker

On the board, Space, Enter or a clicker reveals the next answer, so you can stand with the class.

Under the hood

How the number of the day works

Today's number comes from the date and the level, so everyone using the same level on the same day sees the same number — a co-teacher's board and your printed sheet agree. Numbers that end in zero are skipped above kindergarten so place value stays interesting.

Each level has its own range and routine: counting and making ten to 20, tens and ones to 120, hundreds to 999, then rounding and digit values with four- to six-digit numbers. Every answer is calculated by the tool, and rounding uses the usual rule (5 and above rounds up).

Your data

Private by design

  • No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
  • Everything runs on your device, so the level you pick and any number you type stays with you.
  • Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers. If you're signed in, My Classeem's Recent Activity notes which tools you used — never what you did in them.
  • If you sign in, Save keeps only this generator's settings in your account (the kind of options you pick above), never what the sheet contains; auto-save, when it's on in your account, keeps the same settings after you print or download.
  • We use Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate measurement: page views and a few usage events, such as a worksheet being printed or a game round starting or finishing (with the mode played). It never receives what you enter — no answers, scores, names, or generated content.

Frequently asked questions

Is the number the same for everyone today?

Yes. Today's number is chosen from the date and the level, so every class using the same level on the same day gets the same number. Press Another number for a different one, or type your own.

Which grade levels does it cover?

Kindergarten (numbers to 20), grade 1 (to 120), grade 2 (to 999), grades 3–4 (to 9,999) and grades 4–5 (to 999,999). Each level has questions that fit that range.

Can I print it?

Yes. Print gives a student sheet with the number, the picture, a blank number line and space for each answer, plus an optional answer key on a separate page.

Can I use it on the projector?

Yes. Show on board opens a full-screen view with large text; click a card, or press Space or a presentation clicker, to reveal answers one at a time.

Can I choose my own number?

Yes. Type any whole number in the level's range, for example the number of days you have been in school, and the questions and pictures update.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything works without signing up. With a free account you can save your level so it opens ready next time.
