Tips for better results

  • Use remove-picked mode for fair turns

Turn on remove-picked so each student is chosen once before anyone repeats.

  • Reset after a full round

When everyone has had a turn, press Reset to bring all the names back into the pool.

  • Use repeat mode for games

Leave repeats on for quick games where it's fine for the same name to come up again.

  • Review the list before picking

Glance over your names and remove duplicates so every student has an equal chance.

  • Print the pick history if you need a record

The history prints cleanly, which is handy for presentation order or keeping a simple record.

Under the hood

How the random name picker works

Paste one name per line. The tool trims spaces, skips blank lines, tidies the spacing, and can remove duplicates, while keeping your text exactly as you wrote it, including full names and special characters.

Each pick is a fair random draw from the names still available. In remove-picked mode, a name is set aside once it's chosen, so it can't come up again until you reset, which is the fair way to give everyone a turn. In repeat mode the whole list is always in play. The tool shows how many names are left and keeps a running history.

Everything happens on your device, so picks are instant and private. Press Pick again for the next name, Reset to start a fresh round, or Shuffle for a new order.

Your data

Private by design

  • No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
  • Everything runs on your device, so the names you enter and the picks you make stays with you.
  • Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers.
  • We use Google Analytics only for basic, anonymous pageview counts. It never receives what you enter into the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is the random name picker free?

Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many names you pick. There's no watermark on the printed history.

Can I use it as a classroom spinner?

Yes. It works as a calm classroom name picker or spinner: paste your names and draw one at a time, with a clear reveal of who was chosen.

Can I remove names after they are picked?

Yes. Turn on remove-picked mode and each name is set aside once it's drawn, so no one is chosen twice until you reset.

Can names repeat?

Yes. Switch to repeat mode and the full list stays in play on every pick, so the same name can come up again.

Can I print the pick history?

Yes. The pick history prints cleanly on its own, with nothing else from the web page, so it's easy to keep or post.

Can I download a PDF?

Yes. Download a clean PDF of the pick order, and an optional summary of who's still in the pool, built right on your device.

Are student names uploaded or saved anywhere?

No. Picking happens entirely on your device, and the PDF is built there too, so your name list is never uploaded or stored on a server.

How is the random pick chosen?

Each pick is drawn from the available names using a fair shuffle, so every remaining name has an equal chance of being chosen.
