Punctuation Fixer Game

Free punctuation game: pick the end mark, tap each gap that needs a comma, and choose the correctly written sentence, with the rule explained every time.

Three ways to practice punctuation on real sentences. End mark shows a sentence with no end mark: period, question mark or exclamation mark? Comma removes every comma and lets you tap the gaps where they belong, then checks them together. Fix it shows four versions of one sentence — the right one and the three classic mistakes (wrong end mark, missing commas, no end mark, a stray comma, missing quotation marks) — and asks which is correct. Level 1 covers end marks and lists, Level 2 adds the comma after an opener and around the person spoken to, Level 3 adds dialogue with quotation marks. Every level has 60+ original sentences.

Punctuation Fixer

The sentence has no end mark: period, question mark or exclamation mark?

Sound

Not a test — nothing is saved after you leave.

My lunch box holds a sandwich, grapes, and a cookie?

Ready to fix some sentences?

End marks, commas, and quotation marks — with the rule in every answer.

Step by step

How to use the punctuation fixer game

  • 1Choose End mark, Comma, Fix it, or Mixed, and a level.
  • 2In End mark, tap the period, the question mark or the exclamation mark that ends the sentence.
  • 3In Comma, tap each gap between words where a comma belongs, then tap Check; you can untap a gap before checking.
  • 4In Fix it, tap the version that is written correctly, then read the rule and the correct sentence before Next.
When it helps

When this is useful

End marks in grades 2–3

Level 1 is statements, questions, exclamations and simple lists — the end-mark and series-comma work of CCSS L.2.2 and the earlier sentence-type lessons.

Commas after openers and around names in grades 3–4

Level 2 adds the comma after an introductory word or phrase and the commas that set off the person being spoken to (L.3.2, L.4.2).

Dialogue in grades 4–5

Level 3 adds quotation marks with the comma or end mark inside the closing quote (L.4.2b, L.5.2) alongside longer sentences.

The classic mistakes, named

Fix it is built from the errors students actually make — a question with a period, a list with no commas, a sentence with no end mark — so the feedback names the one that was picked.

Editing warm-ups on a projector

One big sentence and three or four large choices; students call the answer before you tap.

In practice

Examples to try

End mark, Level 1

“Where did you leave your raincoat” → question mark.

Comma, Level 1

“I packed apples crackers and juice for the trip” → commas after apples and crackers.

Fix it, Level 3

“Let's follow the river,” said Ana. — next to the versions with no quotation marks, no comma, and no end mark.

Feedback

Every answer shows the rule (“Commas set off the name of the person being spoken to”) and the correct sentence.

Tips for better results

  • Read it aloud first

The voice goes up for a question and gets louder for an exclamation; Level 1 is that listening practice.

  • Count the items

A list of three or more needs a comma after every item but the last — the game uses the serial comma, like the worksheet.

  • Play Fix it last

Picking from four versions is harder than fixing one thing; use End mark and Comma first.

  • Print the matching worksheet

The Capitalization & Punctuation Worksheet Generator prints the same skills with an answer key.

Under the hood

How the punctuation fixer game works

Every item is an original, correctly punctuated sentence tagged with the rule it practices. The game derives the questions from it: the end-mark question removes the end mark, the comma question removes every comma and offers a tappable gap between each pair of words, and the fix-it question builds three wrong versions by applying the classic mistakes to the correct sentence.

Each language has its own sentences and its own rules — Spanish keeps its opening ¿ and ¡ and uses the dialogue dash, Brazilian Portuguese the travessão, Indonesian the comma before dan — so nothing is a translation of the English set.

A round is 8 sentences; correct answers score 10 points plus a small streak bonus. Rounds are generated on your device and nothing is saved after you leave.

Your data

Private by design

  • No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
  • Everything runs on your device, so the marks, gaps and sentences you tap during a round stays with you.
  • Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers. If you're signed in, My Classeem's Recent Activity notes which tools you used — never what you did in them.
  • We use Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate measurement: page views and a few usage events, such as a worksheet being printed or a game round starting or finishing (with the mode played). It never receives what you enter — no answers, scores, names, or generated content.
Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is this punctuation game free?

Yes. No account, no limit on rounds, no ads. Nothing is saved after you leave the page.

What grades is it for?

Level 1 (end marks and lists) suits grades 2–3; Level 2 (commas after openers and around names) grades 3–4; Level 3 (dialogue and longer sentences) grades 4–5.

Does it use the serial comma?

Yes — in English, lists are written “pencils, markers, and paper,” as in the matching worksheet. In Spanish and Portuguese there is no comma before y or e, and in Indonesian the comma before dan is standard.

How does the Comma mode check my answer?

Every gap you tapped is compared with every gap that needs a comma; the feedback says how many were missing and how many were in the wrong place, then shows the correct sentence.

Can I play with a keyboard only?

Yes. The end marks, the gaps, Check and the four versions are ordinary buttons reachable with Tab.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The sentence wraps to the screen and every choice is at least 44 pixels tall; the comma gaps are a little smaller but spaced apart.

Does this use AI?

No. The sentences are fixed, hand-written lists and the questions are built from them in your browser.

Is there a matching worksheet?

Yes — the Capitalization & Punctuation Worksheet Generator prints sentences to fix, with an answer key.
