Tips for better results

  • Start with hour-only clocks

Beginners do best with o'clock times before adding the half and quarter hours.

  • Build up the intervals

Move from half hour to quarter hour to five minutes as students gain confidence.

  • Use draw mode after reading

Once students can read a clock, draw mode checks that they can place the hands correctly.

  • Print the answer key separately

The PDF puts the answer key on its own page, so you can keep it apart from the student copy.

  • Use dry erase pockets for reuse

Slip a sheet into a dry erase pocket so students can practice the same clocks again.

  • Regenerate for different groups

Press Regenerate to make a fresh set with the same settings for another group or retake.

Under the hood

How the telling time worksheet generator works

Each problem picks a time on the interval you choose, and the clock face is drawn with precise hour and minute hands. The hour hand moves a little past the number as the minutes go by, just like a real clock, so a time like 3:30 shows the hour hand halfway between 3 and 4.

In read mode the clock shows the time and students write it on the blank line. In draw mode the clock is empty and students draw the hands for the time shown. The answer key gives the correct digital time for read problems and the completed clock for draw problems, so it always matches the worksheet.

Everything is generated on your device, so you can make as many fresh worksheets as you like, instantly and for free. Press Regenerate for a brand-new set of times using the same settings.

Frequently asked questions

Is the telling time worksheet generator free?

Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many worksheets you make. There's no watermark on the printed sheet.

Can I print clock worksheets?

Yes. Use the Print button to send the worksheet straight to your printer. Only the worksheet prints, with clean clock faces, and nothing else from the web page.

Can I download a PDF?

Yes. Download a clean PDF built right on your device, with the clocks on the first page and, when enabled, an answer key on its own page.

Does it include an answer key?

Yes. Turn on the answer key for the digital time on read problems and the completed clock on draw problems, so grading is quick.

Can I make half-hour or quarter-hour worksheets?

Yes. Choose the half-hour or quarter-hour interval, or step up to five-minute or one-minute times as students are ready.

Can students draw the clock hands?

Yes. Choose draw mode and each clock is blank with the target time shown, so students place the hour and minute hands themselves.

Are worksheet settings or answers uploaded or saved anywhere?

No. The worksheet is built entirely on your device, and the PDF is created there too, so your settings, clocks, and answers are never uploaded or stored on a server.

What makes good telling-time practice?

Start with whole hours, build up the intervals slowly, mix in draw-the-hands practice once students can read a clock, and use an answer key for fast, accurate checking.
