Rounding on a Number Line Game
Free number-line rounding game: see the number between its two neighbors, find the halfway mark, and tap the end it rounds to: tens, hundreds, thousands.
Rounding as a picture before it is a digit rule. Which end? marks the number on a line between its two neighbors (340 and 350, or 300 and 400) with the halfway mark labeled, and asks which end it is closer to; a number exactly halfway is named as such and asked where it rounds. Round it asks for the rounded number out of four choices with the line as support. Halfway asks for the number that sits exactly between the two neighbors — the mark that decides every rounding question. Level 1 rounds two-digit numbers to the nearest ten, Level 2 three-digit numbers to the nearest ten and hundred, Level 3 four-digit numbers to the nearest hundred and thousand. Exactly-halfway numbers appear regularly and round up, as in class.
The number is marked between its two neighbors: tap the end it rounds to.
Not a test — nothing is saved after you leave.

How to use the rounding on a number line game
- 1Choose Which end?, Round it, Halfway, or Mixed, and a level.
- 2In Which end?, look at where the dot sits between the two ends and the halfway mark, then tap the end it rounds to.
- 3In Round it, tap the rounded number; in Halfway, tap the number that sits exactly between the two ends.
- 4Read the feedback — it names the halfway mark and which side the number is on — then tap Next.
When this is useful
Rounding to the nearest ten and hundred in grade 3
Levels 1 and 2 are CCSS 3.NBT.1: place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100, shown on the number line the standard's own examples use.
Any place in grade 4
Level 3 rounds four-digit numbers to the nearest hundred and thousand (4.NBT.3), with the line stretching the same picture over bigger numbers.
The halfway rule, made visible
Students who memorize “5 or more rounds up” often cannot say why; the Halfway mode and the labeled midpoint give the reason, and exactly-halfway numbers appear often enough to practice it.
In four number conventions
The same game writes numbers the way each classroom does — 4,286 in English, 4286 and 63 080 in Spanish, 4.286 in Portuguese and Indonesian.
Projector warm-ups
One big number line and two or four large buttons; the class calls the end before you tap.
Examples to try
Which end?, Level 1
47 sits between 40 and 50, past the halfway mark 45 → it rounds to 50.
Round it, Level 2
Round 347 to the nearest hundred: 300, because 347 is before the halfway mark 350.
Halfway, Level 3
Halfway between 4,000 and 5,000 is 4,500 — 500 from both ends.
Exactly halfway
450 to the nearest hundred: exactly on the halfway mark, so it rounds up to 500.
Tips for better results
Find the two neighbors first
Before rounding, name the multiple below and the multiple above; the game shows them as the ends of the line.
Then the halfway mark
The midpoint is the whole decision — Halfway mode practices only that.
Start on Which end?
Tapping an end with the dot in view builds the picture; Round it removes the hint of the two ends.

How the rounding on a number line game works
Every item picks a number that is not already a multiple of the rounding place, finds the two neighboring multiples and the halfway mark between them, and rounds with the classroom half-up rule — the same code the Rounding Numbers worksheet uses, so the game and the worksheet never disagree. About one number in six is exactly halfway.
The number line always runs from the lower neighbor to the upper one with ten equal steps, so a dot's position shows the distance to each end at a glance; the choices in Round it include the other end, the number rounded to a smaller place, and a far-off multiple, the mistakes students actually make.
A round is 8 questions; correct answers score 10 points plus a small streak bonus. Rounds are generated on your device and nothing is saved after you leave.
Private by design
- No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
- Everything runs on your device, so the ends and numbers you tap during a round stays with you.
- Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers. If you're signed in, My Classeem's Recent Activity notes which tools you used — never what you did in them.
- We use Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate measurement: page views and a few usage events, such as a worksheet being printed or a game round starting or finishing (with the mode played). It never receives what you enter — no answers, scores, names, or generated content.
Frequently asked questions
Is this rounding game free?
Yes. No account, no limit on rounds, no ads. Nothing is saved after you leave the page.
What grades is it for?
Level 1 (nearest ten, two-digit numbers) and Level 2 (nearest ten and hundred, three-digit numbers) suit grade 3; Level 3 (nearest hundred and thousand, four-digit numbers) suits grade 4.
What happens with a number that is exactly halfway?
It rounds up — 45 rounds to 50 and 350 rounds to 400 — the rule taught in elementary classrooms and the one the Rounding Numbers worksheet uses. The feedback says so each time.
Does it round decimals?
No. This game is whole numbers only, so the number line stays readable; decimal rounding belongs to the Decimals Lab.
Can I play with a keyboard only?
Yes. The two ends and the four choices are ordinary buttons reachable with Tab.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The number line scales to the screen width and every button is at least 44 pixels tall.
Does this use AI?
No. The numbers are generated and rounded by fixed rules in your browser.
Is there a matching worksheet?
Yes — the Rounding Numbers Worksheet Generator prints rounding practice with an answer key, and the Number Line Worksheet Generator prints lines to label or plot.
