Typing Race Game

Play a free typing race game right in your browser. Type words or full sentences as the timer runs, and watch your racer move against a steady benchmark based on your real words-per-minute and accuracy. Choose a 30-second, 60-second, or 2-minute race, or paste your own practice text. It's a real typing speed game, not a static typing test, with no sign-up and nothing saved.

This free typing race game measures real words-per-minute and accuracy as you type, and turns that performance into a visual race against a steady benchmark racer — typing faster than the benchmark visibly pulls you ahead. Choose Words or Sentences mode and a 30-second, 60-second, or 2-minute race. Works on desktop, tablet, and mobile keyboards.

Tips for better results

  • Start with Words mode

Words mode removes punctuation, so new typists can focus purely on key placement and rhythm.

  • Try Sentences mode once comfortable

Full sentences add punctuation and capitalization, closer to real typing.

  • Watch accuracy, not just speed

A high WPM with low accuracy usually means slowing down slightly will help overall performance.

  • Use a short race length to start

30 seconds is a low-pressure way to try a fresh passage before a longer 2-minute race.

Under the hood

How the typing race game works

You type the text shown, one character at a time; each typed character is checked against the target text instantly, and backspace corrects mistakes normally. The timer starts on your first keystroke, not when you press Start, so you're never racing against setup time.

Words per minute uses the standard typing-test formula: correct characters divided by 5, per minute elapsed. Accuracy is the share of typed characters that matched the target. Both update live as you type.

Your racer's position is a direct read of your real WPM against a fixed, disclosed benchmark pace — typing faster visibly moves you ahead, typing slower visibly falls behind. It's a visual read of your performance, not a decorative animation.

Your data

Private by design

  • No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
  • Everything runs on your device, so the text you type, your practice passage if you use your own, and your game settings stays with you.
  • Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers.
  • We use Google Analytics only for basic, anonymous pageview counts. It never receives what you enter into the tool.
Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is this typing race game free?

Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many races you run. There are no ads.

How is WPM calculated?

Using the standard typing-test formula: your correctly typed characters divided by 5, per minute elapsed. It updates live as you type.

What's the difference between Words and Sentences mode?

Words mode uses simple individual words with no punctuation. Sentences mode uses full original sentences with real capitalization and punctuation, for more realistic typing practice.

Can I use my own practice text?

Yes. Turn on "Use my own practice text" and paste or type at least 40 characters — a class passage, vocabulary list, or anything else you'd like to practice typing.

Why can't I paste into the typing box?

Pasting is disabled only inside the race itself, so the race measures your actual typing rather than a paste. Your custom practice text field (in settings) accepts pasting normally.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. It uses a standard text field, so your device's normal keyboard appears and works the way it does anywhere else.

Does this use AI?

No. This is a browser-only typing game with an original word and sentence bank. It does not use AI, and the game runs on your device.

Are results or custom text saved?

No. Your WPM, accuracy, and any custom text stay in your browser for the current session and are cleared when you leave the page.
