Tips for better results
Keep definitions short
One clear idea per card reads best and fits cleanly, especially at 6 or 8 cards per page.
Use one idea per card
Stick to a single term and a single definition so each card is quick to study and self-check.
Print a small test page first
Print one page to check the size, spacing, and front-to-back lineup before printing a full deck.
Use cardstock for sturdier cards
Cardstock makes cards that hold up to repeated shuffling and sorting through the year.
Laminate cards for reuse
Laminating keeps a deck usable for many classes, especially for shared or station materials.
Shuffle before each review
Press Shuffle for a fresh order so students aren't just memorizing the sequence.
How the flashcard maker works
Type one card per line, with the term and its definition separated by a dash, a colon, a vertical bar, or a tab. The tool trims spaces, skips blank lines, tidies the spacing, and can remove duplicate terms, while keeping your text exactly as you wrote it.
For printing, the cards are laid out on a page in a simple two-column grid, four, six, or eight per page. In front-and-back mode, the tool prints a page of terms and then a matching page of definitions, with the back-side columns reversed so that a double-sided print on the long edge lines each answer up behind its term. In same-side mode, each card shows the term and definition together as a study sheet.
Everything is generated on your device, so you can shuffle and reprint as many decks as you like, instantly and for free. Always print one test page first to confirm the front-to-back lineup on your specific printer.
Private by design
- No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
- Everything runs on your device, so the terms and definitions you enter and the deck you create stays with you.
- Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers.
- We use Google Analytics only for basic, anonymous pageview counts. It never receives what you enter into the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is the flashcard maker free?
Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many flashcards you make. There's no watermark on the printed cards.
Can I print flashcards?
Yes. Use the Print button to send your deck straight to the printer. Only the cards print, laid out cleanly with cut lines, and nothing else from the web page is included.
Can I download a PDF?
Yes. Download a clean PDF built right on your device, ready to print and cut out. You can choose four, six, or eight cards per page.
Can I make front-and-back flashcards?
Yes. In front-and-back mode the deck prints a page of terms and then a page of definitions, with the back columns reversed for long-edge double-sided printing. Print one test page first to check the lineup on your printer.
How should I format terms and definitions?
Put one card per line, and separate the term from its definition with a dash, a colon, a vertical bar, or a tab. For example: planet - A large object that orbits a star.
Can I use long definitions?
Yes. Longer definitions wrap to fit and the text shrinks to stay inside the card, though short, focused definitions are easiest to study.
Are my flashcards uploaded or saved anywhere?
No. The whole deck is built on your device, and the PDF is created there too, so your terms and definitions are never uploaded or stored on a server.
What makes a good classroom flashcard?
One clear term and one short definition per card, focused on a single idea. Add card numbers to keep a deck in order, and use cardstock or lamination for cards that last.
