Tips for better results

  • Type word equals definition for custom lists

Use a format like compare = tell how things differ. A hyphen, comma, or pipe works too.

  • Use matching for a quick check

Match mode is fast to grade and works well as a warm-up or exit ticket.

  • Use sentence mode to show understanding

Writing the word in a sentence shows whether students truly grasp the meaning.

  • Keep definitions short

Short, plain meanings wrap cleanly and keep the worksheet easy to read.

  • Pair with flashcards and matching

Use the flashcard maker and matching worksheet with the same words for extra practice.

  • Print the answer key separately

The PDF puts the key on its own page, so it is easy to keep it apart from student copies.

Under the hood

How the vocabulary worksheet generator works

You pick a built-in set or paste your own words, and the generator builds the worksheet on your device. Custom entries go one per line, and a word can stand alone or be paired with a meaning using an equals sign, a hyphen, a comma, or a pipe. The tool trims spaces, drops blank lines, caps long text, and removes duplicate words so the page stays clean.

The practice mode decides what prints: write the definition gives lines under each word, match word to definition shows a shuffled, lettered definition column, and the sentence modes give a writing line. The words are chosen with a seeded shuffle, so the same settings always give the same worksheet and Regenerate makes a fresh one. An answer key is offered only for modes with a single correct answer, and it always matches the page.

There is no AI and no internet call. Everything is generated and laid out in your browser, so you can print or save as many worksheets as you like, instantly and for free. Your custom words and definitions are never uploaded or stored.

Your data

Private by design

  • No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
  • Everything runs on your device, so the worksheet title, settings, and any words and definitions you type, along with the worksheets and answer keys you create stays with you.
  • Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers.
  • We use Google Analytics only for basic, anonymous pageview counts. It never receives what you enter into the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is the vocabulary worksheet generator free?

Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many worksheets you make. There's no watermark on the printed page.

Can I print vocabulary worksheets?

Yes. Use the Print button to send the worksheet straight to your printer. Only the worksheet prints, with the answer key on its own page when it applies, and nothing else from the web page.

Can I download a PDF?

Yes. Download a clean PDF built right on your device, with your chosen words, practice mode, and an optional answer key, ready to print or share.

Can I enter my own vocabulary words?

Yes. Switch to a custom word list and type one word per line. You can also add a meaning after each word using an equals sign, a hyphen, a comma, or a pipe.

Can I add definitions?

Yes. Add a definition after each word, for example compare = tell how things are alike or different. Words without a definition still work for sentence practice.

Does it include an answer key?

Yes, for modes that have one correct answer. The write the definition, matching, and context clue modes can include an answer key. Open sentence writing does not need one.

Can I make matching vocabulary worksheets?

Are custom words uploaded or saved?

No. The worksheet is built entirely on your device, and the PDF is created there too, so your words, definitions, and settings are never uploaded or stored on a server.
