Step by step

How to use the unit builder

  • 1Paste or type your unit's words, one per line. Add a short definition after a dash, colon, or tab for Flashcards and Matching.
  • 2Switch between the Word Search, Bingo, Spelling, Flashcards, and Matching tabs — each one builds its activity from that same list.
  • 3Adjust each activity's own options (grid size, card count, spelling mode, layout) and press Regenerate for a fresh version.
  • 4Print any activity directly, or download a clean PDF, right from its tab.
When it helps

When this is useful

A new vocabulary unit

Type this week's vocabulary list once and build a full week of varied practice — a word search for Monday, bingo for a review day, flashcards for pairs, and a spelling test for Friday.

Spelling list, five ways

Turn a spelling list into a spelling sheet, a word search for early finishers, and a bingo review game, all from the same words.

Science or social studies terms

Add short definitions to your unit's key terms and generate matching and flashcard sets for review, plus a word search for a quick warm-up.

Substitute folder prep

Build a stack of related, self-contained activities from one list ahead of time, so a substitute has a full day of matching practice ready to print.

Differentiated practice

Use the same word list to make an easier word search for some students and a matching worksheet for others, without retyping the list for each tool.

In practice

Examples to try

A 15-word vocabulary list

Paste 15 terms with short definitions and get a word search, bingo set, spelling sheet, flashcard deck, and matching worksheet, all from one list.

A flat spelling list

Paste words with no definitions and still build a word search, bingo game, and spelling sheet right away — definitions are only needed for Matching.

A science unit's key terms

Paste this week's science vocabulary with short definitions once, then switch tabs to build review activities for a whole unit without retyping a single word.

Tips for better results

  • Add definitions if you want Flashcards and Matching

Word Search, Bingo, and Spelling only need the words themselves. Flashcards and Matching are far more useful with a short definition after each term.

  • Use a consistent separator

A dash, colon, tab, or pipe after each term all work the same way — pick one and use it consistently so every term parses correctly.

  • Regenerate per activity

Each tab has its own Regenerate button, so you can reshuffle the bingo cards or matching column without changing the word search you already like.

  • Keep the list focused

A tighter, well-chosen list of 10–20 terms makes every activity — especially the word search and bingo cards — easier to fit and read on one page.

Under the hood

How the unit builder works

You type or paste your word list once, in the same box every other Classeem list tool already understands: one term per line, with an optional short definition after a dash, colon, tab, or pipe.

Each tab — Word Search, Bingo, Spelling, Flashcards, Matching — builds its activity from that same parsed list using Classeem's existing generator for that activity, so the puzzle, cards, and worksheets are exactly as reliable as using each tool on its own.

Flashcards and Matching need both a term and a definition; if a term has no definition, it still appears in Flashcards with a blank back, and Matching simply builds its pairs from whichever terms do have one.

Your data

Private by design

  • No account and no sign-up. Just open it and start.
  • Everything runs on your device, so the word list and definitions you type stays with you.
  • Nothing you create is uploaded. No values, names, scores, or generated content are sent to our servers.
  • We use Google Analytics only for basic, anonymous pageview counts. It never receives what you enter into the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is Unit Builder free?

Yes, completely free, with no account and no limit on how many activities you generate.

Do I have to retype my list for each activity?

No — that's the point. Type your list once at the top, then switch between the Word Search, Bingo, Spelling, Flashcards, and Matching tabs. Each one builds from the same list.

Do I need definitions for every word?

No. Word Search, Bingo, and Spelling only use the terms themselves. Flashcards will show a blank back for a term with no definition, and Matching only uses terms that have one.

Does Unit Builder include a quiz?

Not yet. A real quiz needs multiple-choice or true/false questions written for each term, which is genuinely different work from the five list-based activities here. Use Classeem's separate Quiz Maker for that.

Can I print or download each activity separately?

Yes. Every tab has its own Print button and its own PDF download, built the same way as Classeem's standalone Word Search, Bingo, Spelling, Flashcards, and Matching tools.

Is my word list saved anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser for the current page visit only — nothing is uploaded, and nothing is saved once you leave the page.
